We try not to eat out a lot (which is not always easy with over ten restaurants popping up in the last year within a two-mile-radius of our house), so when we do we try to make choices that we won’t regret. One of our favorite places is a quaint cafe that serves breakfast and lunch and reopens as a Yoga studio at night. We went there recently for my birthday lunch and treated ourselves to two of their delicious smoothies. Both smoothies were good, but the “Screaming Banshee” smoothie literally turned our family into screaming banshees as everyone wailed about whose turn it was to cradle the cup in their hands and slurp greedily from the straw. It was slightly embarrassing to say the least. We knew we needed to recreate the smoothie at home because it was so good, but also because we’re pretty sure we can never share one of those in public again.
Screaming Banshee Smoothie
- 1/2 C plain yogurt
- 2 bananas (Mine were frozen, but this isn’t a requirement)
- 1/4 C peanut butter (We used hippie dippy fresh ground honey roasted peanut butter, also not a requirement but it’s amazing and you should try it.)
- 3/4 C milk
- 2 TBSP chocolate syrup (I made my own using this recipe.)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Scrape down the sides if necessary and blend again. Makes enough for two adults and two children that can scream like banshees.
